ABOUT:
Critically acclaimed vibraphonist and marimbist Tom Collier made his first public performance in 1954 at the age of five and celebrated his 70th year behind bars in 2024 with his 14th studio album, Boomer Vibes Volume 2 on the Summit label. In between, he recorded and performed live with his own own groups as well as with many important jazz, classical, and pop artists throughout the United States, Canada, and the world.
In addition to his own recordings on inner City, Nebula, Origin, and Summit, Collier has recorded and/or performed with Earl "Fatha" Hines, Bill Frisell, Larry Coryell, Dave Holland, Bud Shank, Ernestine Anderson, Dianne Schurr, Natalie Cole, Barbra Streisand, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peggy Lee, Johnny Mathis, The Beach Boys, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Denver Symphony, and Northwest Chamber Orchestra to name a few.
Between 1980 and 2016, Tom was the Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Washington School of Music in Seattle where he also served two terms as Chair of Jazz Studies. Upon his retirement, he was appointed "Professor Emeritus" by the School and the University's College of Arts And Sciences.
